AJYAL SCHOOL and CONEXIÓN CP unite to bring Education and Hope to the Children of Khan Younis
The armed conflict in Gaza has severely impacted essential infrastructure, with the education sector among the hardest hit. Thousands of children have been left without access to formal schooling, creating a profound gap that threatens both their individual futures and the long-term development of their communities.
In response to this urgent need, Conexión CP is redoubling its efforts by supporting the Ajyal School initiative. Since October 2024, Ajyal School has been operating in Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, providing a lifeline for education amid crisis.
Local reports estimate that between 70% and 80% of educational facilities in the region require extensive reconstruction before they can be safely used again. Many of these buildings are structurally unsound and face the risk of collapse. In light of this, Ajyal School has created improvised learning spaces to ensure that education continues despite the challenging circumstances.
AJYAL SCHOOL
Ajyal School was established in direct response to the deep crisis affecting education in the region. Recognized by the Palestinian Ministry of Education, the project is led by a dedicated school director—an experienced educator with a degree in English—supported by an administrative assistant and a committed team of seven teachers: two for basic education, one for English, two for Arabic, one for Mathematics, and one for Science. All subjects are taught in alignment with the Palestinian curriculum, with classes held in the mornings from Thursday to Saturday (up until March 20, with plans to reopen next week).
In the afternoons, the school shifts its focus to supporting children’s emotional well-being and social development. A variety of recreational and psychosocial activities are offered—such as drawing and painting, arts and crafts, storytelling, and ball games including soccer. These sessions are guided by local professionals, who will soon collaborate closely with psychologists from our organization to strengthen the support provided to children.
Currently, Ajyal School operates in five makeshift classrooms, set up in courtyards and protected by awnings and tents. In addition, open spaces are available where children can play, relax, and experience moments of joy in an otherwise difficult environment.
DISTRIBUTION OF SCHOOL RESOURCES AND FURNISHINGS
With the support of its dedicated volunteers and generous donors, Conexión CP will provide essential educational resources for children in Gaza. This includes five blackboards, four desks for the teaching team, and up to 100 chairs to accommodate students in makeshift classrooms. In addition, up to 250 kits filled with educational materials will be distributed to primary school students.
The materials provided will include books, notebooks, pencils, pens, erasers, sharpeners, and colouring books for younger children. These resources are carefully selected to meet the diverse educational needs of children at different developmental stages.
Through these efforts, we continue to ensure that, despite the challenges they face as displaced persons, children in Gaza have the tools they need to continue their education and build a brighter future.
