CYBERSECURITY AND E-COMMERCE

In collaboration with the foundation Cibervoluntarios, our association “Conexión Creando Puentes” organised two very enriching training workshops in the last two months. The first one, focused on cybersecurity, took place at the end of October, while the second one, focused on e-commerce (level 2), was held in November. Both workshops, each lasting an hour and a half, offered participants the opportunity to delve deeper into these currently relevant topics.

In the first workshop on cybersecurity, participants were able to learn in detail what cybersecurity is and what is the difference between IT security and information security. This difference was highlighted with a clear explanation of how computer security focuses on the protection of systems, applications and data stored on them, while information security encompasses the protection of information in any format, both digital and physical. In addition, the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was addressed, explaining what data can be stored, what data requires special protection, the consent required for data storage and the penalties for non-compliance.

During the workshop there was also a review of the most frequent types of attacks, such as phishing, spam, SEO poisoning and Trojans, offering information on how these attacks can affect users and how to prevent them. The session concluded with a space for questions, where the attendees, mostly women, were able to resolve their doubts and delve deeper into the topics covered.

The second workshop, dedicated to e-commerce, offered a detailed overview of the differences between marketplaces and online shops. Participants learned that marketplaces, such as Amazon, eBay and Correos Market, offer access to new channels and increased sales traffic, as well as integrating payment platforms and providing guarantees to buyers. In contrast, online shops, such as Shopify and WooCommerce, allow greater control and direct contact with customers, offering freedom in the management and customisation of the shop.

It was also explained how to create a website using WordPress, highlighting that it is a simple but powerful tool, ideal for creating any type of website. In addition, the most commonly used payment gateways in e-commerce, such as PayPal, Stripe and PaySimple, were discussed, and the importance of protecting customer data using antivirus and firewalls was stressed.

Both workshops culminated with the delivery of personalised certificates of attendance for each participant, with their personal details, name and ID card number. These certificates not only recognise participation, but also reflect the attendees’ commitment to improving their knowledge of cybersecurity and e-commerce.

The workshops were a valuable opportunity for learning and active participation. Attendees enjoyed the sessions and gained useful knowledge to apply in their personal and professional lives. We would like to thank Cibervoluntarios for their collaboration and support in these training events. We look forward to continuing to organise activities that contribute to the growth and development of our community.
