A Day of Joy and Celebration at the Ajyal School in Southern Gaza

Educational Kits Delivery to 250 Children

Wednesday, April 30, marked a heartwarming and symbolic moment for the school community at Ajyal School, located in the southern Gaza Strip. Against the backdrop of ongoing hardship due to conflict, the school courtyard was transformed into a space of joy and resilience as 250 educational kits were distributed to children aged 6 to 18. The event brought renewed hope to students, families, and staff alike.

The distribution, organized for children from nearby neighbourhoods who are registered in the school, was more than a simple handout of supplies—it was a celebration of learning, unity, and recovery. At the moment around 100 students are currently attending core classes in Arabic, English, Mathematics, and Science every morning. In the afternoons, the school offers a diverse range of enrichment activities, including sports, music, art, and design workshops. Students also participate in personal hygiene programmes and emotional well-being sessions, creating safe and supportive spaces where they can process and express their feelings during this difficult time.

The spirit of the day was beautifully captured by the children themselves. Many girls arrived dressed in their traditional red dresses, recognizing the significance of the occasion. “It wasn’t just about receiving kits,” noted the headmistress. “It was about being seen, celebrated, and supported.”

Students across all grade levels shared their happiness—not only for the new supplies but for the chance to be back at school after nearly six weeks of absence. During that time, teachers kept the flame of learning alive by conducting lessons via WhatsApp, and they continue to support those unable to attend through asynchronous learning.

The teaching staff expressed deep gratitude, emphasizing how meaningful it was to witness their students return, eager and full of energy. For them, the day was not merely about school materials—it was a celebration of resilience, hope, and community.
