CONEXIÓN Creando Puentes (CCP) is proud to announce its participation in the Habesha Project – Complementary Pathways, in partnership with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) for Mexico.
Starting in February 2025, CCP will take part in a three-month pilot programme that aims to provide Spanish language classes to refugees who arrived in Aguascalientes, Mexico, last September and who already hold Habesha Project scholarships. Our main objective is to help these young refugees, primarily from Syria, Somalia, and South Sudan, enhance the Spanish language skills they have begun to develop since their arrival. This initiative will feature small-group classes tailored to the students’ needs, focusing on specific vocabulary relevant to the curriculum of their chosen university studies. The courses will be taught by volunteer teachers from our NGO and conducted in groups of two or three students, allowing all students to actively participate in speaking activities and internalise new sentence structures and terms.

Planning the course with teachers (USCRI – CCP)
It is important to highlight that the Habesha Project mobilises resources and builds connections with some of the best universities in the country, offering students a complementary pathway to pursue higher education in Mexico through the Habesha Protection Scholarship.
As a non-profit organisation dedicated to supporting language learning, CCP sincerely appreciate the assistance of the Mexican government in providing residence to arriving refugees. Additionally, the government’s provision of computers and financial support to cover daily expenses in their cities of settlement is invaluable. This initiative undoubtedly represents a new opportunity for individuals in vulnerable situations and significantly improves their quality of life. For all these reasons, we are proud to contribute to this important cause.
