Pyramids of Hope Initiative

A new and meaningful meeting in Cairo between Conexión Creando Puentes and Pyramids of Hope

Back to Cairo!

This time, our visit coincided with the eve of Eid Al-Fitr, a significant celebration for the community marking the end of Ramadan. Filled with excitement, we headed to one of the schools in the Al-Maadi neighbourhood, where this important initiative takes place. We were warmly welcomed with enthusiasm and a spirit of camaraderie, setting the perfect tone for our meeting.

Typically, classes run in the afternoons from 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., but since our visit was during Ramadan, the school day had been adjusted to the hours between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. We made the most of this window, starting with a discussion with the school management before meeting the children.

A meeting full of hope and commitment

As soon as we arrived, we had a productive meeting with the school’s director, who welcomed us with kindness and provided us with comprehensive information regarding the educational activities available at Pyramids of Hope. During this meeting, we expressed our intention to collaborate closely, committing to financially support cultural outings for the children of the initiative. Through visits to museums, the pyramids and other historical sites, they seek to broaden the children’s knowledge and cultural background, fostering their connection with the history of Egypt, the country that hosts them.

We are excited to take care of all the different expenses that come with these outings, such as entrance fees to museums and parks, transportation, food and beverages, and the costs related to the teaching staff that will accompany the students.

The joy of sharing with the children

After the meeting, we visited the young students. While we couldn’t visit every classroom, we had the chance to stop by four: first through fourth grades, with children ranging from 6 to 9 years old. During this heartfelt encounter, we distributed stationery kits to 44 children. Each kit contained thoughtfully chosen, age-appropriate supplies, including colored pencils, pens, pencil sharpeners, erasers, scissors, and rulers. The children’s excitement upon receiving their gifts was unmistakable, and their joy was contagious, filling us with a deep sense of fulfillment and happiness.

During the time we spent together, the children also surprised us with their curiosity and eagerness to learn. They asked us questions about Spanish and, in turn, taught us some expressions in Arabic. We were also delighted to hear two children perform songs and to admire the prize won by two other girls for their exceptional drawings.

On the other hand, we decided to make an additional small gesture towards those who have lost a parent in the war by giving them a special gift as a token of support and solidarity.

It was a moment that celebrated not only cultural exchange, creativity and empathy, but we received the affection of all those children and adults who opened the doors of the school and their hearts.

Our visit to this Cairo’s school was emotional and driven by a shared sense of purpose, strengthening our commitment to collaborate in bringing hope and opportunities to the children involved in this noble initiative.
