At Conexión CP, we are committed to supporting migrants and refugees so that they can continue their studies and, in doing so, build a future with greater and better opportunities in their host country. For this reason, we are intensifying our efforts and wish to make it easier for them to sit the IELTS examinations, which are of great importance and a fundamental requirement for entry to university studies in the United Kingdom, among other destinations.
To carry out this initiative, we have designed two complementary projects. On the one hand, we are seeking volunteer teachers whose native language is English to deliver IELTS courses for those who need to strengthen their knowledge and skills before reaching the required level. In addition, we aim to offer a Pre-IELTS course for those who do not yet have a strong B1 level and therefore cannot enrol directly in an IELTS course. This preparatory course will serve as a pathway towards the IELTS itself.
It is essential to have experience in preparing candidates for these examinations, as well as knowledge of their content, format and study materials.
The courses will be taught by more than one volunteer teacher; each may deliver classes according to the relevant language skills (Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking). For example, one teacher may focus on reading comprehension and grammatical aspects, while another may take responsibility for written and oral expression. The distribution of roles will be determined once the teaching team has been formed and may differ from the example given above.
Each course will last six weeks, with a teaching load of between five and six hours per week, amounting to a total of 30 to 36 hours.
On the other hand, we also require volunteers for the overall design and preparation of the courses. It is equally important that they are native speakers of English with experience in language teaching. If they also have a background in developing teaching materials, all the better. In any case, the main task will be to prepare specific activities and content for the courses mentioned. Although there is abundant free material available online, this will only be used as supplementary practice, and the charity will provide support in selecting it.
