Conexión C.P is a charitable organisation founded in response to the worldwide forced migration crisis. Across the world, some 80 million people have been forced to flee their homelands to escape war, violence and persecution. These people need our help to settle in new lands, which they do not find easy.
At Conexión we need you. We need people like you to volunteer for programmes such as Project SENEGAL. Decades of civil war have left this beautiful country ravaged, its people torn apart, and some of our team recently had a chance to travel to Senegal and help the Talibés.
Talibés are usually children who have been put in the care of Quranic teachers known as ‘marabouts’. They live in ‘daraas’, these being residential Quranic schools which offer extremely poor living conditions.
The Talibés have come to be here for many reasons and come not just from Senegal but from neighbouring African countries, which are equally poverty-stricken such as Guinea-Bissau and the Gambia. Their status is therefore as immigrants, and in the majority of cases they do not have papers or identity cards.
Many Talibés resort to begging for food. They do not have a formal education and that is where Conexión makes a difference. We are supporting the Talibés in their education as best we can, but we need volunteers to help us sustain our efforts.
We have begun providing online English language courses to teenaged Talibés, in an effort to improve their chances of any kind of viable future. At Conexión we are committed to helping these young people, and we need volunteers who are willing to help. You do not have to be a qualified teacher as we will provide training, but you do need to have a passion for helping young people such as the Talibés in Senegal.
